Dedicated to the memory of Emily Ahrens

When Em arrived over 19 years ago little did we realise what a force of nature she would become. She may have been part of our lives for a very short time but what she gave to us is beyond compare. She showed us strength, determination and resilience to keep going despite her disabilities. She loved to laugh and had the most infectious giggle. She loved music, especially Abba, and TV programmes and movies, The Tweenies, Frozen, Tangled and Mulan spring to mind. She loved to watch and laugh at us dancing and she enjoyed jigging around in her chair. Pamper sessions were a firm favourite and brightly coloured nail varnish always went down well. We were told she would never walk or talk - but she had a command of two words, both used frequently - mum and the F word!!! Her sense of humour was wicked, cheeky and sometimes downright naughty. The chasm, in our hearts, that she has left behind is too big to close. We may paper over it but life will never be the same without her massive presence in it.

She was taken far too soon and unexpectedly and we're still struggling to come to terms with it all. Despite this being such an awful time we would like something good to come out of it so we have chosen a charity, for donations in Em's memory, called 'Together for short lives' which is very close to our hearts. After Em's first MRI we were told she only had a 30% chance of making it to adulthood, which she ignored, but to have that possibility of losing your child is the most awful thing that a parent can hear. This charity works with families to give them help and support in uncertain times and when it is most needed. The loss of a child, regardless of when and circumstance, is unimaginable unless it has happened to you.

Please help the charity, it doesn't matter how small your donation - everything will make a difference.
